We know volunteering can raise all sorts of questions along the way - so we've built in points across the year where you can connect with us virtually on a call, ask questions, and meet other volunteers

We know volunteering can raise all sorts of questions along the way - so we've built in points across the year where you can connect with us virtually on a call, ask questions, and meet other volunteers. These sessions are built around you, so we always ask you to put forward questions in advance so we can shape the session topics around what you'd like to learn. You'll of course always have time for follow-up questions too.

SEPTEMBER - Welcome & Introduction Session 👋 (1 hour)

Your first chance to meet members of the Volunteer Support Team and Live Chat Team before you're matched. We'll cover what to expect, how to get support, and answer any early questions, as well as support you with onboarding.

HALF-TERMLY - Volunteer Support Sessions 🌟 (45 minutes each)

After you’re matched with your reading buddy, you’ll be invited to join these half-termly sessions. They’ll be led by your designated Volunteer Support Team contact and the Programme Manager(s) supporting your pupil’s school. Come along to:

  • Share experiences and pick up tips from other volunteers

  • Ask questions or get guidance

  • Stay connected with the wider volunteer community

END OF YEAR - Reflection & Highlights Session 🎉(1 hour)

A lovely way to round off the year together - celebrating your achievements, sharing highlights, and reflecting on the difference you've made.

It was really good to hear other people's experiences of their reading sessions. It reassured me that I'm on the right track and gave excellent ideas to try moving forward.

  • Hosted live on a call via Microsoft Teams

  • All sessions are optional, but we'd love to see you!

  • Open to all volunteers but spaces are limited

  • Built on what you'd like to learn - there's space in the invite to submit any subjects you'd like us to cover, or simply ask live on the day

  • Recording link available after all sessions - see one of our previous sessions here!

  • A short feedback survey will be sent after each session to help us give you the best experience
